Item Building a map-based transit planner for the tro-tro system in Accra(2017-04) Abbeyquaye, AndrewTechnology has been a useful tool in the way we transcend our limitations as human beings. In the transport sector, we have seen remarkable improvements such as the variety of modes through which we travel as well as the applications that make planning our journey more easy and effective. Transit planning applications have been used in developing countries to make sense of their transportation systems and to help people travel in more effective ways. However, most of these applications have limited coverage or reduced functionality when used in developing countries such as Ghana since the data these functions depend on are usually inexistent. In this project, a transit planning application is implemented to make use of tro-tro data to help users obtain a travel itinerary for their journeys within Accra while minimizing travel distance and time.Item Building an e-commerce website for a traditional retail footwear shop (Es-Store)(2019-04) Osei Mintah, SandraThe evolution of technology has impacted the world significantly; in government, industries, and sports. Business activities such as buying and selling have equally received their share of the technology boom. Despite the utility of technology in modern times, many traditional businesses have failed to incorporate technology in their daily activities. Es-Store is no exception. In the typical routine of Es-Store, people travel from the outskirt of Accra towards the central part to transact business with Es-Store. The uncertainties associated with the availability of the specific type of brands of footwear is a concern to potential customers, and often, customers are disappointed after traveling long distances without getting their desired footwear. Mr. Emmanuel Osei, the shop owner of Es-Store, spends huge part of their business capitals on stocking his shops with products customers sometimes do not need, leading to a slow market. Mr. Osei makes significant losses when the products in their heavily stocked shop begin to wear out. The benefits of online platforms in transacting businesses cannot be overemphasized considering the challenges above. People can obtain product information, availability, prices, and access delivery options. On the other hand, business owners can build a database of past and future customer details, preferences and trends in sales and shift supplies to respond to the shift in customer demands. In this project, I develop a web-based platform for Es-Store using technology tools such as HTML (Hypertext Markup Language), PHP (Hypertext Preprocessor), Javascript, Ajax, CSS (Cascading Style Sheet), and MySQL (Structured Query Language). I hope that Es-store and all other traditional retail shops will leverage this platform to enhance their operations and increase their profit margins.Item Inventory management system for Denaks Frozen Foods(2019-12) Agamah, EmmanuelDenaks Frozen Foods is a start-up in the heart of Jamestown (Accra, Ghana) which seeks to provide its customers (rich, middle-class and poor) with frozen foods. There are a variety of products it serves to the market. These products include fish, gizzard, chicken, and sausages. Dede Nakoh, the owner of the company, started the business to make profit after doing an intense study of the market. Currently, the company has four working staff excluding the owner, two salespeople and two butchers. The company aims at establishing more branches in Accra to become a well-known company in Ghana. However, the company faces a problem which is likely to prevent them from achieving their goals. The needs assessment conducted showed a poor inventory management system as the main problem the company faces. The company is unable to effectively and efficiently track and monitor its stock. Further analysis was done in through literature review to understand the problem better and gain mastery of the possible solutions to address the issue. The literature review highlights the various inventory management strategies which could be used by Small Medium Enterprises (SME) to monitor their inventory to yield maximum performance. These inventory strategies include Economic Order Quantity, ABC Analysis, Just-in-time and Enterprise Resources Planning. From the literature review, Orderly POS, an inventory management software and a Point of sale was the best solution to manage the inventory of the company. The software has relevant inventory management features which allows the user to monitor inventory, count products using a bar code scanner and signals the user when there is low inventory stock.Item Mobile financial services in Ghana - Measures for achieving safety and security of services(2017-04) Belnye, StephanieThe use of mobile phones has become part of the daily activities of about ninety percent of Ghanaian adults. This has contributed to the rapid adoption of mobile financial services by Ghanaians. In 2014, Bank of Ghana reported over two million registered users. Africa and the rest of the world have also experienced this exponential growth in the use of mobile financial services. Due to the huge money it is raising in that sector, fraudsters have made several attempts on these systems leading to the loss of enormous sums of money. The objective of this study is to understand the mobile financial service ecosystem in Ghana and internationally, assess what risks users may face and suggest measures to help prevent or reduce the effects of these risks. In order to better understand the concept of mobile financial service, some academic papers were reviewed revealing the components of the ecosystem, risks that these players may face and some proposed solutions by scholars. Case studies, in-depth interviews and secondary data were gathered for this research. Findings from the data collected show that some risks users may face include: malware infection of devices or point of sale terminals, corruption of information stored on the server of acquirers or service providers, theft of data during transaction, including man-in-the middle attacks, advanced persistent thefts and insecure data connectivity. Also some mitigation measures to these threats include enforcement of two factor authentication on systems, securing data connections using Secured Socket Layer (SSL) authentication, secure configuration, hardening of critical servers and data encryption during transactions. This study is limited geographically because the interviews held included players in the mobile financial service ecosystem in Accra only. Also only three companies were interviewed for this study due to the limited time constraint.
