This capstone project aims to design and implement a microgrid system utilizing renewable energy sources to address the energy challenges faced by the population of Ouagadougou in Burkina Faso. The microgrid design utilizes solar panels and a wind turbine to generate electricity, and HomerPro software is used to optimize the microgrid system for optimal arrangement and performance. A wind emulator is implemented in the lab to study the behavior of a Wind Energy Conversion System. Simulations and tests were conducted to evaluate the cost and the microgrid's performance under different scenarios. The results showed that the system could provide reliable and sustainable electricity to Ouagadougou's population. This project demonstrates the feasibility and benefits of using microgrids and renewable energy sources to promote a more sustainable future and address the energy challenges rural areas like Ouagadougou face. By providing a practical solution to the energy needs of Ouagadougou, this project can potentially improve the standard of living and economic development of the community.
