Intelligieaux: An intelligent fire detection and management system for off-campus hostels at Ashesi University

Abstract

Fire has the potential to create irreversible damage. Even though several monitoring systems exist to observe and report unexpected activities within a property, considerable damage has occurred by the time response personnel arrive. This project aims to learn about existing fire detection systems' shortcomings and create a more robust, dependable design. Intelligieaux is an emergency fire detection and management system consisting of three main sections for our users: students, Student Life Engagement and the Fire Stations located close to Ashesi University, specifically Aburi and Akropong. The system offers services and functionalities such as a fire reporting feature that allows students to make a report with a button click. The geolocation and other required details of the student are recorded and then sent to both the SLE department and fire station for approval and immediate action. The system also incorporates three sensing parameters: Smoke using the MQ2 sensor, Carbon monoxide using the MQ7 and flame detection using a flame sensor. Once the mentioned sensors are connected to an ESP8266 microcontroller, they will read environmental conditions. Suppose any form of carbon monoxide, flame or smoke particles is detected. In that case, the algorithm of the system would immediately send an alert prompting both the SLE office and Fire Department of an occurrence or possible occurrence of a fire outbreak.
