| dc.description.abstract | The COVID-19 pandemic ultimately caused a global lockdown in which universities, libraries, churches, offices, and other public places in general were closed, with the goal of smoothening the sickness curve and moderating overall mortality from the outbreak. With this, the COVID-19 pandemic accelerated the trend towards online learning. In many places however, high internet costs and weak internet connection hamper how effectively students are able to take advantage of online learning. This is a huge problem because students who face low bandwidth issues when engaging in online learning may miss certain vital requirements of online learning such as taking online examinations at a given time, being able to access lecture content (videos, books, etc.) among others. Additionally, many students without personal computers use their mobile devices as the primary device for online learning. This project will explore questions related to the use of internet data and mobile phones in online learning with a view towards improvement. In this study, 2 mobile applications were created, one for lecturers and another for students. The applications were built with a Firebase Fire store (backend) component to ensure that students have access to data in the database even when offline. The results proved that this system can be built, and more studies must be done to enhance the efficiency of the system. | |
